ASP’s vision is to be a ‘hub’ for public-private partnerships that enhance the development and commercialization of science-generated technologies and knowledge through market mechanisms that will ultimately benefit the poorest of the poor.
The ASP focuses on creation and commercialization of improved agricultural inputs (e.g. seed and other technologies) and tools (e.g. food safety test kits), developed through biotech R&D, as well as value addition to dryland agricultural commodities through processing and improved storage. Although the focus of the ASP is so far on helping to develop the agro-industrial sector in India, the ASP includes international partners from the USA and Europe, and an expansion is planned to sub-Saharan Africa.
The integrated Strategic Business Units (SBUs) of the Agri-Science Park @ ICRISAT include:
- Ag-biotech Innovation Center (AIC)
- Agri-Business Incubator (ABI)
- Hybrid Parents Research Consortium (HPRC)
- Bio-products Research Consortium (BRC)
- NutriPlus Knowledge Center (NutriPlus)
- SAT Eco - Venture
A pool of experienced science and business managers handles the day-to-day management of ASP and is supported by Technical Directors / Managers of individual SBUs. Together they are responsible for the operational management of the ASP. In common, the SBUs offer an array of Institutional Advisory services:
- Provision of infrastructure
- Technical backstopping for R&D
- Technical and entrepreneur training
- Incubation and hand holding services
- Technical and business consulting
- Intellectual property and regulatory advice
- New Product Development
