SAT Eco-Venture

ICRISAT has entered into an MoU with the AP Tourism Department to develop the SAT Eco-Venture as an agricultural/environmental education program along with WWF - a partner in the Ag-biotech Innovation Center. The serene environment consisting of lakes, a golf course, natural habitat, forest, and cultural heritage buildings are being preserved to form an eco -tourism park, which can be accessed by members.

This is an eco-tourism concept, what started as beautifying the natural serene landscape of ICRISAT to serve as demonstration and training platform to the visiting academia, farmers and visitors, is now a model for demonstrating scientific watershed development. Through ASP, ICRISAT envisages to replicate this model by inviting the hospitality and leisure industry to promote Ecotourism in the Semi Arid Tropic (SAT) areas.

The serene environment consisting of lakes, golf course, natural habitat, forest, cultural heritage are being preserved to create an eco tourism park, which can be accessed by the members. In order to establish a platform for farmers and the public to comprehended the dynamics of Semi Arid Tropic Ecosystems, SAT Eco Venture has also conducted awareness programs among farming through training and field visits.

Based on the learnings from these initiatives, ICRISAT plans to replicate the ecosystem in various other Semi Arid Tropic locations in the world in order to sensitize farmers in those locations to the natual habitat and to serve as a tourist circuit for others.
